چکیده
In the 18th week of the prenatal life large light cells of mesenchymal origin enter the crypt epithelium of the palatine tonsil to start its reticularisation. They are considered precursors of Langerhans cells.

A Pedunculated Hamartomatous Polyp of the Palatine Tonsil
Hamartomatous polyps of the palatine tonsil are very rare. They have been variously termed as a lymphangiectatic fibrous polyp, lipoma, pedunculated tonsil etc. in the English literature. We present here a case of hamartomatous polyp of the tonsil occurring in a 32-year-old male who presented with bilateral enlarged palatine tonsils with recurrent tonsillitis. Surgical excision showed two pa...
متن کاملThe sequence of reticularisation of epithelium of human palatine tonsil: scanning electron microscopic study.
The changes appearing during the development of the human palatine tonsil, both in the surface and in the tonsillar crypt epithelium, were studied from samples of the 16th to 40th prenatal weeks. From the 18th week, we observed areas of mesh-like epithelium in an originally homogeneous stratified squamous epithelium, i.e. the reticularisation began in the tonsillar crypt epithelium. The importa...
متن کاملUltrastructure of the human palatine tonsil and its functional significance.
The human palatine tonsils represent a mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue with a significant function in mucosal protection against alimentary and airborne pathogens. The ultrastructure of different morphological compartments in the human palatine tonsil was studied in eighteen tonsils obtained from the patients who had undergone elective tonsillectomy due to chronic tonsillitis. The tonsillar s...
متن کاملCartilaginous Choristoma of the Tonsil: Three Case Reports
Introduction: Choristoma is defined as the presence of cells in abnormal locations due to defects during embryological development. The word choristoma implies a neoplasm; whereas heterotopia refers to a displaced tissue without necessarily being a swelling or a neoplasm. Literature contains reports of cartilaginous choristoma in the cervix, endometrium, breast tissue, and oral region. ...
متن کاملOsteocartilaginous Choriostoma of Palatine Tonsil: a Rare Hidden Entity
A choriostoma is an aggregate of microscopically normal cells or tissues which occurs in an aberrant location. It follows a benign course, rarely seen in head and neck region. A choriostoma of the palatine tonsil is very rare; less than 10 cases were reported till date. A 11-year-old male referred to ENT OPD with chronic tonsillitis and underwent tonsillectomy. The histopathological examination...
